How to Enter

Submit Your Entry

  1. Visit the Innovation Awards Call for Entries page between August 10 and September 16.

  2. Complete, submit and pay for your entry online between Monday, August 10 and Wednesday, September 16, 2015. Emailed and/or hard copy submission forms are will not be accepted.

  3. You will be notified by email on October 15, 2015 with your award status.

Please Note: You must provide a minimum of two different high resolution photos of your product (we encourage more) along with your written entry submission.

 

Entry Qualifications
Entries must qualify for each of the following criteria:

  • Products entered must fit within one of the official award categories.

  • Products entered must be available for sale to the public, for the first time, in U.S. retail outlets or on the Internet between April 1, 2015, and April 1, 2016.

  • If you are a CES exhibitor, one sample of your Innovation Honoree product (prototype or the final product) must be available for display in the Innovation Showcase at the 2016 International CES, January 6-9, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Best of Innovation Honorees must allow CEA to hold one sample of the product for up to one year, for display at other CEA-related events.

  • Unless you indicate otherwise on your application, Honorees will be announced at CES Unveiled New York, November 01, 2015 and will be included in the launch of the Honoree listings on CESweb, also on November 10.

  • Companies not exhibiting at CES may also enter the 2016 Innovation Awards; however, restrictions apply if selected as an Honoree.

Contest Rules

  • Companies that are not exhibiting at the 2016 CES may enter the Innovation Awards competition. However, non-exhibitor Honoree products will not be included for display in the Innovation Showcase at CES and will not be listed in the on-site Honoree directory in It Is Innovation, unless the company pays for an exhibit space by October 23, 2015. If a company has fully paid for an exhibit space by October 23, 2015, they can be listed in the on-site directory and have their product displayed in the Showcase.

  • Entries must be submitted online through the Call for Entries portal by September 16, 2015.

  • Entries submitted in a previous year are not eligible for resubmission; however, if significant improvements have been made to the original product and/or significant enhancements that are truly unique and innovative, then the new model will be eligible for submission. If an entry of a similar model previously submitted is disqualified, the entry fees will not be refunded.

  • At least two DIFFERENT product photographs must accompany each entry. Computer renderings are not preferred and may result in reduced scores from the judges. Entries may include up to five photos. Photos must be submitted in a .jpg format. Each photo should be less than 8MB. All photos must be submitted via the online submission process. Emailed and hard-copy photos will not be accepted.

  • All entry forms are the property of CEA. We suggest you print or make a copy of your submission for your records.

  • An entry is qualified for judging when all required sections of the online entry tool are completed and entry fees have been paid in full. If the wrong entry fee is paid at the time of submission, the entry will be disqualified if the balance is not rectified by September 21, 2015.

  • Incomplete and unpaid entries will be disqualified. CEA is not responsible for follow-up of incomplete entries. If you are unsure if your entry is complete, please contact us at InnovationAwards@ce.org.

  • Entries must be paid online at the time of submission, using a credit card. Check and invoice payments are not accepted. 

  • To evaluate an entry, the judges may ask for additional information, including a request to provide a product sample.

  • If improperly categorized, an entry may be moved to a different category based on the recommendation of the judging panel, without consent from the entrant.

  • CEA reserves the exclusive right to set, modify and interpret all conditions regarding this competition without claim for damage or recourse of any kind.

  • Each company selected as an Honoree grants CEA permission, without compensation, to use its name and photograph/likeness and/or entry in promoting this or similar awards programs in the future.

  • Materials must meet CEA standards for appropriate product presentation and taste and may be asked to be resubmitted or disqualified at any time, if they are deemed inappropriate. Any attempt by an entrant to deliberately damage the Innovation Awards website or undermine the legitimate operation of the Call for Entries may be in violation of criminal and civil laws. Should such an attempt be made, all entries submitted by such person will be disqualified. CEA reserves the right to seek damages from any such person fully permitted by law.

  • In the event a virus compromises the competition, non-authorized human intervention, tampering, or other causes beyond the reasonable control of CEA, which corrupts or impairs the administration, security, fairness, or proper operation of the Call for Entries, CEA reserves the right in its sole discretion to suspend, modify or terminate the Call for Entries. Should the Call for Entries be terminated prior to the stated closing date, CEA reserves the right to announce honorees based on the nominations received before the termination date.

  • CEA reserves the right to rescind any awards granted to honorees that have misrepresented their product or entry in this competition.

 

How We Judge

Each product category has a three-member judging team comprised of an independent industrial designer, an independent engineer and a member of the trade press.

The three-member judging team gives a numerical value to each of the below criteria. The scores are combined, resulting in a cumulative score for each product. A baseline value is derived from the cumulative scores in a category. All scores above the baseline are designated as Honorees.

The Best of Innovation Award will be awarded to the highest-rated product in each category, as long as that product surpasses a previously-determined minimum score. If the highest-rated product in a category does not surpass the minimum score, there will be no Best of Innovation Award for that category. All award designations by our judges are final.

Entry FAQs

Becoming a part of the CES Innovation Awards is not hard, but you still may have questions. We've answered a few common questions below.

Who is eligible to enter?

Anyone who manufactures, designs, engineers or promotes consumer electronics (CE) products marketed in the United States, or is an authorized agent of the organization or individual, that is authorized to submit entries.

What is the difference between Best of Innovation and the Honoree awards?

In the Innovation Awards program, there are two levels of Honorees. The first level is Honoree, and only a fraction of the products entered achieve this title. The second level, Best of Innovation, is a more exclusive award that is given to the highest-rated product in each category, as long as that product scored above a pre-determined score threshold. If the highest-rated product in a certain category did not pass the Best of Innovation score threshold, that category has no Best of Innovation award.

My company is a brand new startup with only a few employees and nothing but a prototype that hasn't hit the market. Do I stand a chance of receiving an award?

Absolutely! The wonderful thing about the Innovation Awards is that a product's score is based on engineering and design qualities, innovation and value provided to the consumer. We admire brilliant products, so there’s no difference if your company has been around for a month or a century, operates globally or locally, or has 10 employees or 10,000.

What is the Innovation Showcase?

The Innovation Showcase is a designated area of the show floor at the International CES where the Honoree products are on display for the world to see. It is a very high-traffic area and one of the most popular destinations at CES. Innovation Honoree products are encouraged to send a product sample to the area for display, free of charge, as long as the company is a CES exhibitor.

My product fits into multiple categories; which should I enter?

If you are only able to submit one entry, select the category that most completely encompasses your product, or in which you feel your product is most accurately described. However, we welcome you to submit the product into multiple categories, if you prefer. Each category is judged independently, so well-designed products often receive awards in multiple categories. A separate entry fee is required for each category entered.

Can an entry submitted last year be submitted again this year?

Entries submitted last year are most likely ineligible for submission this year, since the competition is limited to new products that become available to consumers from April 1, 2015 and no later than April 1, 2016. However, if you have developed a new model of the product that you feel is innovative and enhances the original product, you may submit an entry for the new model.

Do I have a word limit for questions on the entry form?

On the product-specific questions, we impose a limit of 500 words. You may also upload the technical specification sheet for your product. If you do not have a specification sheet, you may provide the same data in your own words (1,000 character limit).

What happens if my entry is not complete?

An entry is qualified for judging when all required sections are completed, images are included, and all entry fees have been paid. While CEA is not responsible for the follow-up of incomplete entries, we will attempt to notify entrants of the status of their entry. Ultimately, it is the entrants’ responsibility to ensure the entry is complete. Unpaid entries will be disqualified. Entry fees are non-refundable.

If I secure space for CES after submitting my Innovation Awards entry, can I receive a partial refund on my Innovation Awards entry fee? 

If you are not a CES exhibitor at the time that you submit your Innovation Awards application, you can still become an official exhibitor and receive a partial refund up until October 14, 2015. After October 14, we are unable to issue partial refunds. Contact us at InnovationAwards@ce.org for more information on receiving a refund.

When will I find out if my product has been selected to receive an award?

All applicants will be notified by email on October 15, 2015 of their award status. If selected as an Honoree, you are requested to confirm information included in your entry. It is essential that we receive this information for the Honoree announcement at CES Unveiled New York on November 10, 2015.

A.K. Stratton is an accomplished designer and team leader utilizing conceptual problem solving, detailed design, and production implementation for manufacturers of new products. His design recommendations have contributed to many successful products now on the market for companies including Kodak, Segway, Vgo Communications, Harris and DeLORME. Stratton gained valuable experience as a designer for fast-paced industrial design consulting firms such as Loeffler-MacConkey, Michael Cattafe Assoc., S+H Diagnostics, and Helix.

Stratton is currently the director of product development at Helix, where he oversees the creative staff of product designers, mechanical engineers, and prototype specialists. He is responsible for all aspects of the design process, from conceptualization to production procurement. While at Helix, Stratton successfully transitioned into design management and has played a key role in developing client relationships, guiding teams, and developing successful products. 
He enjoys working with team members of all levels, mentoring younger staff, and fostering strong client relationships.

Almon H. Clegg has a long history of involvement with the home audio, multi-channel technology and product development. He is a pioneer in CD-4 recording and reproduction systems, studio recording, digital audio for the compact disc and ambient sound system theory.  He has contributed to product planning formerly for Panasonic and Denon and has been an independent consultant for the past 20 years.  Clegg is a life fellow of the Audio Engineering Society and life senior member of the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers. 

He studied at Brigham Young University, University of North Dakota and Bradley University in engineering sciences and received the MBA from Illinois State University.  He taught course work in business research projects at Rutgers University Graduate School of Management. Clegg is author and co-author of several technical papers relating to home audio systems.


Andrew Butler is the CEO of Design to Matter Inc. He is a senior executive and entrepreneur with over 25 years of starting technology related companies, raising capital and executing exits. His experience also includes marketing and sales to large retailers such as Costco, Walmart, Home Depot, Sears, and Lowes, in addition to formation and creation of international distribution systems in Europe, Japan, Greater China and the Mid-East.







Anil George is a veteran technology, lifestyle reporter and the managing editor of T3 Middle East, the leading consumer technology title in the Middle East, widely followed by the region’s tech enthusiasts. As Managing Editor, George has overseen a quantum shift in content integration on the title, both online and in print. Widely called on for his views on the consumer electronics industry in the region, he started his career as a documentary filmmaker. A recent venture as an author apart, he continues a lifelong obsession with sound systems, cameras, displays and rare books.





Assaf Gad is the vice president of marketing at N-trig. He has over 12 years of experience in marketing, product management and user experience, with an in-depth focus on the consumer electronic market.
Gad has also served as chief marketing officer at PointGrab Ltd., a provider of computer vision and gesture control solutions for consumer devices and smart homes, where he managed the marketing, product and business activities of the company. Before joining PointGrab, Gad led product management and marketing teams at Powermat Technologies and at Modu Mobile. Earlier in his career, Gad was head of product management at Telmap Ltd. (acquired by Intel), a leading provider of location-based services.

His past roles include several development positions in mobile and Internet startups and a research assistant position at The Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya. Gad holds. a bachelor’s degree in computer science.


Barbaros Kirisken is a senior researcher responsible for exploration, design and development of innovative ideas with probable commercial potential and managing projects, which requires cutting-edge engineering technology. He has more than 10 years R&D and industry experience in consumer electronics, specifically LCD televisions open cell LCD design, STB and computing products. 

Kirisiken holds a bachelor’s degree in economics as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical and electronics Engineering (EEE). He is also a doctoral candidate in EEE. He holds two granted and eight pending EU and TR patent applications and many other applications under documentation in consumer electronics and white goods. 

Kirisiken is the main author/co-author of many academic papers published in reputable journals about reliability modelling of consumer electronics products. He is currently working for one of the largest manufacturer of consumer electronics and white good products.

Benjamin Vincent is a French journalist, producer and entrepreneur. He is the founder, CEO and editor in chief of OUATCH TV, the first broadcast TV dedicated to high-tech and lifestyle news in France. OUATCH TV reaches approximately 22 million subscribers to set-top boxes.
 After starting as a reporter in 1993 at Macworld Franc, he moved to radio. Vincent was also a reporter at Europe 1 where he covered the war in Iraq, among others. From 2005 to 2008, after becoming editor in chief in charge of digital media, he anchored the first live weekly radio show dedicated to consumer electronics in France. In 2008, Vincent created the TEKNOLOGIK website and started producing audio and video podcasts. In 2012, he produced the first live French-language Web TV show from Las Vegas. Since 2013, he has been producing daily live TV shows and will be back, in 2015, at the International CES with OUATCH TV.



Benoit Chamontin is a tech journalist and the editor of Geeks and Com', a website covering new technology, video games, geek culture and marketing-communications.  He actively participates in events in these different industries while staying involved in several business associations and organizations. 

He is also a freelance consultant in communications (public relations, digital communications, social media and so on). Charles Curbbun has over 35 years of product design experience with an extensive understanding of the product development process. His approach to design combines an emphasis on creating unique user experiences with the ability to produce quantifiable ROI and competitive advantage for the client. It is this methodology and his leadership that inspires the strategic design direction for DDSTUDIO.

Curbbun studied industrial design in England, earning a bachelor’s degree with honors at De Montfort University. He worked in Europe for various tech firms, including ITT where he initiated their product branding throughout Europe. He then started DDSTUDIO in Southern California 25 years ago.

Chris Morris is one of the leading technology experts in the United States. Dave Taylor has been a part of the tech and consumer electronics business for over 30 years and is well-known as the publisher of AskDaveTaylor.com, a popular reviews and tech support website. He's launched four Internet startups, written over 20 books, writes for both newspapers and magazines and is a featured tech expert on local television and radio programs. When not working, he's a proud single father of three, two teens and a 10-year- old who's convinced she's also a teenager.
 




David Adams graduated from Auburn University in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.  Starting with a co-op job at GTE/Sylvania, he began his 20 year career in product design.  He is currently at Helix Design in Manchester, NH. In the past, he also worked with Schlumberger/Neptune meters in Alabama, Industrial Design Associates and Enginuity Works in Atlanta and his own company Adams Product Design.

He has designed ruggedized military handhelds, vending machines, automotive components, lab equipment and consumer products.  Some of the longer term projects had him working directly with Coca-Cola, Visteon, Roush and Dixie-Narco.  While at IDA, an advanced blow molding project with Textron was awarded the 1999 Society of Plastics Engineers, Grand Award (international).



David Elrich is a writer and editor covering a wide spectrum of consumer electronics technology since 1985 for some of the country’s top publications—print and online. He was a founder of the one of the first CE sites—etown.com—in 1996. He has developed extensive expertise in the consumer digital imaging space as an editor and reviewer and he has experience with Pentax and Nikon 35mm DSLRs progressing to digital imaging. Elrich frequently reviews cameras and camcorders for DigitalTrends.com. 
Elrich also covers Home Theater including flat-panel HDTVs and many other CE categories such as tablets and accessories. He is a member of the Academy of Digital Television Pioneers. David Sahuc is the chief software architect for Cisco Systems, Video Technologies France in Paris, formerly NDS. His focus is on vision, strategy and new technologies for Cisco Videoscape, a solution encompassing set-top-box middleware, user experience and Cloud solutions bridging video and Internet of Everything. Before joining NDS, he was a developer and architect for France Telecom, Technicolor and Grass Valley where he spent  five years in California, focusing on video switchers and 3D technologies for live broadcast and digital TV solutions. 

Sahuc has a computer sciences eEngineering degree from Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Rennes, France, with a specialization in multimedia systems.




Derek Flickinger is an electronics concierge providing consulting and implementation services for manufacturers and consumer electronic installation companies. He provides insight on new technologies, products, and strategies related to standards-based distributed audio, video, communications, and control systems for the home and consumer market spaces. He is co-author of the book HDMI Uncensored: Inside HDMI available at http://hdmiuncensored.com. Flickinger’s long-term goal is to be instrumental in the development and deployment of entertainment systems on space stations and space colonies.



 

Richard “Dick” De Jong has been involved in technology, in one form or another, for over four decades. For the last eight years, he has served as editor of HDTV Solutions, where he has written more than 200 reviews and commentaries on the ever expanding and evolving world of consumer electronics. He has a fondness for good design, not only by function but also form. Ideally, De Jong believes a product should be useful, usable and appealing.






Don Koehler is the Web manager and sharepoint developer for the Bureau of Naval Personnel at the U.S. Navy’s operation in Millington, TN.  He is also a technology consultant for small and medium sized companies, as well as a tech advisor for the U.S. Government, on technology that best suits their business and operational needs. His clients include the U.S. Navy and Department of Commerce.   

Koehler has been deeply involved in technology for over 28 years, advising public and private sector clients on current product selection. He currently researches, tests, and recommends everything from networking and computer systems and accessories to the latest GPS units, digital imaging technology, and smartphones.

He has been a CEA member for several years, and is a frequent beta-tester for newly released products and services.   Koehler lives in Memphis where he enjoys nature and wildlife photography, photo restoration, and serving as his family’s historian.  

Doug Phair is a technology evangelist for the MITRE Corp. focused on providing novel business solutions in the area of collaboration, mobility, and agile work environments.

His passion is to transition tools and technologies successful in the consumer market to Enterprises IT and government.  In addition, Phair runs a large intern program at MITRE and sponsors several partnerships with many leading Universities.  His work in this area provides insight into the work practices of the “Next Gens” to inform emerging IT environments and services.  He has a master’s degree in computer science from Boston University, and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Merrimack College.





Duncan Wood has been involved in the 3D printing world for 18 years since working on rapid prototyping magazine Rapid News back in the late 1990s. After a three year sabbatical as sales manager for then startup Pure Insight, a provider of professional development solutions to help drive and instigate innovation, Wood returned to the 3D printing world to oversee Rapid News evolution into TCT Magazine in 2005. Having built the magazine into the leading 3D printing publication on the planet he assumed the role of publisher in 2010. 

He also serves as event director for TCT Show + Personalize, the world's largest dedicated 3d printing exhibition and conference, taking place annually in the UK. Wood is returning as a judge in the 3D printing category for the second year.



Eric Montoya started his career as a support technician during the first days of HTML and the Internet.  In his current role as director of brand strategy, Montoya regularly speaks at industry events about advances in visual commerce, social media, and behavioral marketing and currently uses that expertise to help drive engagement and results for brands and retailers worldwide.

Floyd Goldstein is the founder of Embedded Solutions Lab, a product design lab and creative think tank. Goldstein has created various consumer, professional, and industrial products for a multitude of clients over the past 30 years, and has attended and shown products at the International CES, NAB, IBC, NAMM and Music Messe.

Goldstein has a master’s degree in computer science, and has enjoyed creating various specialized wireless, USB, and embedded products for startups and Fortune 2,000 companies. 

Goldstein lives in Grass Valley, CA is happily married, and is the proud father of four exceptionally creative and talented children.

 

Francie Black is a technology consultant with a 20-year progression through corporate technology product evaluation, training, project management, software development, information technology management, product and business development.  Black was the manager of Internet Development for a Fortune 100 company and has managed the design, specification, development and deployment of many worldwide software applications.  She was the director of product development for a venture capital funded Internet startup.  She also co-developed the first searchable real estate listing service on the Internet.  As a consultant, she has worked with companies such as Amgen, Honda, Volvo, Chrysler, as well as, early stage Internet companies. Black enjoys working with large and small organizations.

Frank J. Parrotto has an extensive international background coupled with 25 years of finance, M&A and operations experience within the Fortune 100 and Big Four Consulting.

In addition, Parrotto is heavily involved with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) with leadership roles in Small Business Council, Mentor Program, Audio Board, Government Affairs and a number of working groups.

Formerly, as director of international development at KPMG, the global accounting and consulting firm, Parrotto had responsibility for client revenue development and service delivery for clients such as GE, Cisco, Home Depot and other prominent organizations. Early in his career, Parrotto had senior operational and marketing roles at Black and Decker, Unilever and Anheuser-Busch.



Gorm Jørgensen has a master in management of technology with over 20 years of experience in the consumer and automotive audio businesses. He has strategic and operational experience in research, design, product creation, innovation and project and business management.  He worked for HARMAN from 1993 to 2001 as chief engineer and manager for electronic development in Europe dealing with development of car audio speakers and electronics as well as home audio electronics. 

Since 2001, Jorgensen has worked for Bang & Olufsen in loudspeaker system development and project management. In 2008, he became head of Amplifier/DSP platform development at Bang & Olufsen Automotive providing world-class audio systems to Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Aston Martin. Today, Jørgensen is head of design & technology for Bang & Olufsen Automotive, as well as head of acoustical research for  Bang & Olufsen a/s group.

 

Inbal Lishansky has over 13 years of extensive experience in product design: as a team leader, Vice President of Design, project presenter, judge, and industrial design lecturer. For the majority of her career, Inbal has led design projects, either as a sole designer or as a Lead Designer responsible for a team effort. As VP of Product Design & Innovation at DSP Electronics Inc., she acts as the link between management and product design, and functions as the interface between the platforms of technology, design creation, management and marketing.

Inbal designed a large variety of innovative consumer electronic products which continue to be very successful in the market. Her products have received several design awards, including the CEA Mark of Excellence Awards and CES Innovation Awards.




Jaime Borras is chief technology officer of GeoToll Inc. and president of Jaime Borras Consulting Services LLC. As CTO of GeoToll, he is bringing the toll industry into the 21st century; and as president of his consulting services, he directs various startup companies, driving innovative technologies to commercialization while improving their operational efficiencies.

A pioneer and master innovator in the mobile telecommunications industry with over 30 years of wireless handsets experience with Motorola. Borras has contributed and led several high profile projects with big impact to humanity, starting with the first generation of cellular phones, followed by multi-generations of the first to market Push-To-Talk, telephony, data and speakerphone technologies in iDEN handsets; and leading to the 4G smartphones. Borras has 48 US utility patents granted and over 50 technical publications.

 

Jean-Pierre (JP) Abello has over 20 years of experience in consumer electronics. He has been in product and engineering leadership positions at both large and small companies including Yahoo!, Philips, IBM, Liberate Technologies, Digeo and Vidiom. He was instrumental in the launch of Yahoo! Connected TV, which received an Engineering Emmy Award in 2011, and has millions of active users on Smart TVs from Vizio, Samsung, LG, Sony and Toshiba.  He also led the engineering teams who built the CableLabs OCAP application platform for Time Warner Cable, and other Cable TV and Telco middleware at Liberate Technologies. JP holds master’s degrees in computer engineering from USC (Los Angeles), and aerospace engineering from Sup’Aero (France), and has lived in the U.S. since 1990.




Dr. Jih-Sheng Jason Lai received his master’s degree and doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. From 1989 to 1993, he was with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Power Electronics Applications Center.  From 1993, he worked with Oak Ridge National Laboratory as Power Electronics Lead Scientist.  He joined Virginia Tech in 1996.  Currently he is a James. S. Tucker Endowed Professor and is the Director of Future Energy Electronics Center. 

He has published more than 320 refereed technical papers and two books. He received 24 U.S. patents in the area of power electronics and their applications. Dr. Lai is an IEEE Fellow. He received several distinctive awards including Technical Achievement Award in Lockheed Martin Award Night and seven best paper awards from international conferences. His student teams won the First Prize Award in Texas Instruments’ Analog Design Competition in 2011 and the Grand Prize Award from International Future Energy Challenge in 2013.  


Joel Silver is the president and founder of the Imaging Science Foundation Inc., (ISF) which incorporated in 1994 to introduce image quality improving calibration services into HDTVs. 

He chairs the CEA and CEDIA committee on Home Theater Video Standards and serves on the INFOCOMM Contrast Ratio committee.
His work on advancing HDTV image quality was covered in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Popular Mechanics, Wired and numerous A/V publications here and abroad. 

In the A/V industry, he has presented at CES, American Association of Medical Instrumentation, Barco BE, CEDIA Australia, EHExpo, INFOCOMM, ISE Amsterdam, ISE Brussels, ISE Singapore, NESDA, NSCA, Microsoft’s WINHEC, received both top five and top ten CEDIA instructor awards, and is a CE PRO top-10-for-10-years most influential industry leader.  

Silver is a co-inventor of the patented Microsoft Windows Display Calibration Wizard, which is now in over 150,000,000 PCs.


Jonathan Roubini is editor in chief of Lab Reviews and is the winner of the coveted PRSA Award for Excellence in Technology Journalism. Roubini groundbreaking work in technology journalism has been acclaimed by the top world experts, including Bill Gates.

Roubini started as a teen as a contributing editor to the leading Italian technology magazine. He soon moved to the U.S. to attend the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University. He then began his impressive career at PC Magazine as the lead analyst of the software and mobile categories. Dr. Jorge Caviedes is a principal engineer in the computer vision group of Intel Corp.He has also lead and managed the Intel’s Digital Home Group’s team that delivered advanced video processing deployed in consumer video and mobile products.  Caviedes team delivered four generations of video processing engines for Intel media. He also serves as adjunct professor in the EE department of Arizona State University as well as the general chair of the annual Video Processing and Quality Metrics Workshop since 2005.

Prior to joining Intel, Caviedes was a principal member research staff at Philips Research Labs where he worked in the Netherlands, France, and U.S. sites. His work areas included AI, expert decision support systems, interactive multimedia, and medical informatics. He holds doctoral and master’s degrees from Vanderbilt University and bachelor’s degree from the Universidad de los Andes. He currently holds 34 U.S. patents (plus 36 pending). Since 2008, Caviedes has served as senior member of the IEEE.





Jules Egyud has over 30 years of experience in the consumer electronics industry (CE) as an engineer and as an executive. He is currently an independent consultant, helping CE companies plan and realize their next generations of products. Previously, Egyud was the vice president of engineering at Altec Lansing, the company that pioneered the first iPod™ and iPhone™ speaker docks. 

Prior to joining Altec, Egyud was the vice president of engineering at Digital 5, a high-tech startup specializing in digital multimedia products and technologies for the connected home. The company pioneered streaming technology  that enabled several of the industry’s first DLNA-compliant consumer products to come to market.
Prior to Digital 5, he was the director of software engineering for Franklin Electronic Publishers, makers of the first portable handheld electronic reference products. These products included the famous Franklin Spelling Ace, as well as electronic bibles, speaking dictionaries, translators, etc.  Franklin became one of the very early pioneers of the e-book category.

Ken Blakeslee is the chairman of WebMobility Ventures, a company that focuses on private investing and advising companies on bringing innovations in multimedia mobility to market. Blake’s involvement over the past few years has been specifically in the area of private equity investing in the mobile sector, and his previous experience in developing telecoms, IT and Web commerce business strategies spans 25+ years. His focus has been on the emerging new media content, applications and commerce methodologies, and the merging of these with the ubiquitous, personal access of mobile.

Lee Clark-Sellers has been the innovation officer at Ply Gem Industries since 2011. Nisha Sawhney is the founder of SnS Design Inc where she specializes in the development of home appliances, housewares, consumer electronics, furniture and life style products. Paul Lane serves as bureau chief at NBC News Radio affiliate KCAA AM-1050. He is the host of the weekday morning show on the station. Lane also is a former consumer electronic retail store owner. Since becoming a quadriplegic over 20 years ago, due to an automobile accident, it has been his mission to help bridge the gap between consumer electronics and the disabled community. This has led him to be chosen as an ambassador for the Los Angeles Abilities Expo. Over the past five years, with his morning show team they have broadcasted live from the International CES interviewing CEA industry professionals, executives and manufacturers in the consumer electronic industry.

Lane was featured in the nationally syndicated magazine Radio Ink in March 2013 and was their featured online story. He serves on the board of the American Advertising Federation Inland Empire Chapter in California.



Paul Wiles has nearly 20 years in automotive engineering experience, most of this in the area of infotainment. He is a technical specialist at Jaguar Land Rover with strategic responsibility for consumer electronic devices, media playback and telephony.

Wiles also works with external organizations such as Automotive Linux, DLNA, Bluetooth SIG and for the last three years he has been the lead of the CE Connectivity expert group inside the GENIVI alliance. He is also the strategic lead for a Media Manager open source project.



 

Dr. Petros Belimpasakis is a global product manager for audio products and apps at Bang & Olufsen, a company world renowned for its distinctive range of quality audio, video and multimedia products.  He has a mixture of deep scientific expertise and industrial experience in the areas of consumer electronics, automotive, mobile communications and mixed/augmented reality. His activities are driven by the passion of combining cutting-edge technology with solutions that are convenient and intuitive to use in daily life. Prior to joining Bang & Olufsen, he was with Nokia Research Center (2000-2011) with his latest role being principal researcher. 

Belimpasakis holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics as well as a master’s and doctoral degrees in information technology. He has authored 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications, and he is the inventor/co-inventor in more than 20 filed patent applications.

He is a senior member of the IEEE and the IEEE Consumer Electronics Society.

Pip Tompkin is the founder and creative director of Pip Tompkin Studio, a highly successful design Studio based in Los Angeles, CA. The firm has helped companies develop unique, extraordinary highly successful products, product strategies, UX solutions and brands. 

In 2001, Tompkin joined Design Edge, an Austin based industrial design consultancy. During his four years t at Design Edge, he helped Dell develop industry leading products in the areas of gaming, education, consumer and enterprise markets. In 2005, he accepted a senior position at Nokia with a focus on developing smart devices for North American, European and Asian markets. 

Tompkin’s philosophy, “assume nothing” together with his Big Think, Big Idea methodology, has helped develop award winning innovative products and brands for numerous businesses, startups and large o organizations worldwide including: Microsoft, HTC, iRobot, Vizio, Toshiba,  Polycom, Herman  Miller, Steelcase,  and Knoll to name a few.

Qi (Peter) Li received a doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, in 1995. From 1995 to 2002, Dr. Li worked at Bell Laboratories, AT&T and then Lucent Technologies as a member of technical staff in the Multimedia Communications Research Lab. In 2002, he established Li Creative Technologies Inc., an innovator in audio, speech, and biometric solutions for the mobile, communications, e-commerce, healthcare, video conference, and entertainment industries. LcT is a winner of the 2011 CES Innovations Design and Engineering Award. 
 Li has over two dozen issued and filed patents in audio signal processing, speech and speaker recognition. He has published more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. He is the author of Speaker Authentication (Springer 2012) and is an elected member of the Speech and Language Technical Committee of the IEEE Signal Processing Society.



Ramesh Somani is the founder and publisher of Exhibit India’s largest tech and lifestyle magazine. Along with that he is also chief editor of – thetechy.com, which is his latest entrepreneurial venture. A writer at heart and entrepreneur by profession, Somani likes to discuss ideas, technology, and cars and is a self-confessed tech addict. Randy Lawson is a principal analyst with IHS Technology group. Since 2008, he has made significant and recognized contributions to the semiconductor industry trends and display electronics market research area. Lawson worked as a systems engineer within the DLP TV program focused on both China and U.S. markets.

Richard Schloss is an experienced engineer who is passionate about discovering new technologies, designs and concepts, at events such as the International CES®, that help him and others solve the next generation of tough technical problems. After being completely enthused by all the innovations presented at CES 2014, Schloss immediately got involved with his local technology startup scene, learned from Kickstarter gurus, and worked on exciting projects at nearby incubators, such as HeatSync Labs.
 

Throughout the years, Schloss  has worked as a full-time electrical/electronics engineer, process engineer, test engineer, and software engineer with several “dream teams” on some highly publicized products. He is an electrical engineering graduate of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (master’s degree) and Boston University (bachelor’s degree). When he's not typing away at the computer, he's teaching various group fitness classes and pursuing his other greatest passions, namely, music, cruising the world, and being active in the great Arizona outdoors.

Robert Heiblim has more than 35 years of experience in the consumer electronics field involving the management of both new technology startups and high-growth companies.. Heiblim is also co-founder and principal of BlueSalve Professional Consulting and Interim Management.

Heiblim has consulted to clients including AT&T, Sony, Panasonic, Best Buy, Nokia, Philips, Sony, Skullcandy, Wal-Mart and many others.  Previously, he has served as CEO of etown.com, president of KH America―the American subsidiary of Gold Peak―and president of Denon Electronics, an international supplier of consumer electronics. 

Heiblim has also been active in the industry serving as Audio Division chair for the then EIA/CEG (CEA). He acts as chair of the DAR Manufacturers Caucus and vice president of the Compact Disc Group, which launched and began digital transition, being active in each stage including standards setting, new technology launches and promotion. Heiblim also serves as a mentor for the CEA advising member companies.



Ron Picard graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Michigan State University in 1985 and began his career at General Motors Research Laboratories (GMR).  While at GMR, he worked on automating the mainframes used within the Research Labs, and volunteered for a special project whose goal was to save General Motors one hundred million dollars in its first year.  The team of three programmers produced an analysis tool used by assembly plants to increase vehicle throughput based on GMR’s internal research.  Others on the team worked with assembly plants to utilize the tool effectively.

Since 2001, he has been with Chicago-based ComGraphics Inc.  His main duties include architecting and implementing forward-facing IT systems and Web-based platforms, concentrating on ease of use while insuring data integrity and security.



Shane Fernandes is the chief technology officer of California based IP4Group and is responsible for the corporation’s strategic leadership and technical direction. Fernandes has over 20 years of experience as the architect of innovative IT solutions for companies in the Telecom sector.

Shaun Cooley is a Cisco distinguished engineer, responsible for the security of Cisco's collaboration technologies for infrastructure, cloud and endpoints.  While always striving to increase the security of Cisco’s collaboration products, Cooley is also particularly focused on ensuring security is either transparent or extremely usable – something that is typically overlooked in enterprise products.  Prior to Cisco, Coley was a distinguished engineer for Norton, at Symantec, where he made major contributions to the Norton product line over his 18 year tenure including: Norton Internet Security, Norton 360, Norton’s cloud management platform as well as co-founding Norton Labs.  Consistently innovative over the past 20 years, Cooley has become a named inventor with 74 issued United States patents and over 100 additional pending patents.
He is an active angel investor, a startup mentor through Acceleprise SF and on the board of two early-stage startups.

Shay Goldberg is the creative director  and co-founder of iApps Technologies. He is an industrial design graduate of HIT - Holon Institute of Technology (honors).
Goldberg’s experience as the former owner and manager of Alpha Design industrial design studio has made him a user interface/user experience expert. Srikanth Kavoori has over 10 years of experience designing and developing software for mobile phones, set-top boxes and ATM switches.  He has worked across the software stack starting from device drivers, middle-ware and user Interface. He also has hands on programming experience using C and C++ and has handled multiple roles in SDLC like tester, developer, lead and architect. Kavoori has rich experience coordinating multiple teams and working in multi-cultural and multi-location backdrops. Stefan Mozar is the president of the IEEE Consumer Electronics Society, and an adjunct professor at Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT), in South China. He obtained his engineering degrees from the University of New South Wales, Australia and his MBA from the University of Technology, Sydney. He is a fellow of the IEAust, and a Chartered Professional Engineer. He is also a senior member of the IEEE, and ASQ.

Most of his work experience is in consumer electronics, where he has worked for organizations such as Philips in Singapore as well as Grundig and Nordmende in Germany.

Currently, he is a board member of the IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society and has served on the IEEE Technical Activities Board (TAB). He has worked on projects that have won about 30 international design awards. His work has also resulted in patents, research papers, and book chapters.

Stephen Baker is NPD’s vice president of industry analysis for the consumer technology, mobile, and commercial technology industries.

He has also created educational software and e-learning modules on programming techniques for the largest IT Training Institution in Georgia. 

As a developer with the Georgia Department of Revenue, Brown and his team were responsible for securing over 10 million tax division records with highly encrypted biometric security protocols that only revenue employees could access.

Suke Jawanda is the chief marketing officer of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) with more than 15 years of emerging-technology marketing experience. Tom Breithaupt has a bachelor‘s degree in electrical engineering in analog circuit design and acoustics from The Ohio State University. He worked six years for General Motors in the mobile audio group developing the first automotive subwoofer and component systems in cars in the 1980s.  He later worked 18 years for the Blaupunkt division of the Robert Bosch Corp.  in aftermarket and OEM mobile audio engineering and product management and developed the first flat/thin automotive full range speakers and subwoofers.  Breithaupt spent four years with Sonavox Electronics working in China driving OEM factory designs for home and automotive applications with driver design and electronics support and remains consulting today.    
 

Today, Breithaupt resides in Naples, FL. consulting for the loudspeaker and amplifier industry and home theater installations via his company, BreitLabs (BreitLabs.com).  He is also consulting for the firearms industry providing market development and safety materials for new gun owners. 
 

Vishal Sapru is a research manager for Frost & Sullivan in its’ Energy & Power Systems division. Sapru has over 16 years’ of experience in research, consulting, sales, marketing, business development, client interaction, project planning and general administration. His comprehensive understanding of various technologies including portable power, embedded technologies, smart home and wearable technologies has lent expertise to analytical research in market sizing, industry challenges, trends and pricing. 

Currently at Frost & Sullivan, Sapru is responsible for business plans, initiating business development activities, drafting proposals and project costing. Dr. William R. Simpson holds degrees from The Ohio State University, The George Washington University and The Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He has had a number of academic, standards body, professional society, government and industry appointments. His publications number over 300 and include: two text books, journal and magazine articles, technical reports, conference papers and standards. He also provides evaluations, reviews and editorial information on electronics and information technology trends and products that may have application potential within the defense structure to a broad class of interested parties in the Defense Department.
 The emphasis in the last 10 years has been information security. He is currently working for the Secretary of the Air Force office of the chief technology officer on next generation information assurance architecture for the Air Force Enterprise –a model for next generation architecture for the U.S. Department of Defense.

Winston Binch is partner and chief digital officer at Deutsch LA. He oversees a team of 200 and works with VW, Target, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Nintendo, and Esurance. His leadership has helped the agency get named one of the top 10 most innovative companies in advertising by FastCompany for 2014. 

Prior to Deutsch, Winston was a partner at CP+B. While there, he worked on some of the most innovative digital initiatives in advertising history including: Burger King’s Whopper Sacrifice, Domino’s Pizza Tracker and Vail Resorts’ EpixMix. Before CP+B, he worked at R/GA, where he led the development of Nike iD. Early in his career, Winston worked at Sony Music and played guitar in a touring indie rock band, Stereobate. He’s co-founder of BDW at the University of Colorado, a digital education program, and M-School: Institute of Marketing at LMU.

Dr. Yu Yuan is a veteran researcher and practitioner in the areas of transportation, consumer electronics, and Internet of Things (IoT). Currently, he is serving as the president of Cate Global, a multinational think tank focused on bringing expertise to clients and projects in China. He is also the CEO of Motiveware Technology Co. Ltd. He also has experience at the Strategy, Ecosystem & Partnership division for IBM Research –China, playing a key role at the IBM IoT Technology Center.
