We know the economy has impacted everybody’s wallet. So in each issue of CES Up to the Minute, we’ll give you at least one way to save money. This time around, we’re going to tell you how towhen it comes to booking airfare to Vegas, there are ways to save. There are many things to consider when it comes to business trips, but there are also ways to curb costs. Rather than traveling to multiple cities around the globe, CES could be THE ONE business trip you make, connecting you with more than 130,000 consumer technology professionals and more than 2,700 exhibitors from 140 different countries. Here are ways to get the best deal on airfare to the International CES:
Buy your ticket now. A 14-day advance purchase used to be good enough, but with oil prices in such flux – with many speculating that the prices will only continue to rise – locking in airfare now is likely prudent. - Travel midweek. Tuesdays through Thursdays are generally less expensive times to fly, and lucky for you, the 2009 International show begins Thursday and ends Sunday (January 8-11). Consider staying the entire duration of the show to get the best airfare.
- Often flights that depart very early or late in the day are more affordable than mid-day flights.
- Shop around. If you are booking on a travel website, sanity check the rates by visiting the airline’s website, too. Plus, travel sites don’t feature every airline that flies into Las Vegas.
- Many flights are beginning to charge for checked bags. If you book before the policy is enacted, you mostly likely will avoid fees.
- Check out McCarran International Airport’s site for information on which airlines service the airport, flight information, local transportation and more.
You don’t have to be an exhibitor at CES to get major attention. CES offers a variety of respected awards programs, and many are open to exhibitors and non-exhibitors alike. CEA and The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) are now accepting entries for the new Global Media Awards program which honors how the world of technology and entertainment have merged to advance both the creativity and science of media worldwide, and it’s time to submit your entry. The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) are accepting entries for the following Global Media Awards categories: short form, advertising, website/Internet, repurposed linear/traditional content, long form, platform and user experience/program guide.
In prior years, media — like technologies — were clearly defined by decades of usage and tradition, as well as culture and country. As the digital age dawned, these distinctions have virtually evaporated as technologists, creators, producers and distributors have dedicated their skills to accomplishments in all forms of media, distributed simultaneously to international audiences.
Important dates:
- September 12, 2008: Deadline for entries to be postmarked
- September/October 2008: Blue Ribbon Panel judging
- October 19-22, 2008: Nominations announced in Las Vegas during the CEA Industry Forum
- January 8, 2009: Winners announced at CES January 8, 2009, The Venetian, Las Vegas, Nevada
