Ryan Block is meticulous. Not only has the former editor-in-chief of Engadget analyzed every square foot of what CES has to offer, he has been known to obsessively chart and dissect his own blogging patterns. Talk about scrutiny. Block and his Engadget team have redefined – and some might argue replaced – traditional tech press coverage, cataloguing gadgets from the chic to the bleak. And, at a time when he is taking on his own new ventures, he is set to give tech's best new breed a taste of his recipe for success as the latest addition to the judging line-up for i-stage. Forget the payola conferences. Don’t miss the pitch of a lifetime at the 2008 i-stage competition in Las Vegas on October 20.
Long before the CES show doors open, the Consumer Electronics Association and its partners sponsor a variety of events — for the entire industry and individual niches within it — to educate the masses and unite manufacturers, retailers and market movers. We know the economy has impacted everybody’s wallet, but when it comes to booking airfare to CES, there are ways to save. Choosing CES as your one consumer technology tradeshow is — for starters — a great way to save money. Rather than traveling to multiple cities around the globe to conduct business, CES could be THE ONE trip you make, connecting you with more than 130,000 consumer technology professionals and more than 2,700 exhibitors from 140 different countries.
Here are ways to get the best deal on airfare to the International CES:
Buy your ticket now. A 14-day advance purchase used to be good enough, but with oil prices in such flux – with many speculating that the prices will only continue to rise – locking in airfare now is likely prudent. - Travel midweek. Tuesdays through Thursdays are generally less expensive times to fly, and lucky for you, the 2009 International show begins Thursday and ends Sunday (January 8-11). Consider staying the entire duration of the show to get the best airfare.
- Shop around. If you are booking on a travel website, sanity check the rates by visiting the airline’s website, too. Plus, travel sites don’t feature every airline that flies into Las Vegas.
- Check out McCarran International Airport’s site for information on which airlines service the airport, flight information, local transportation and more.

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) are accepting entries for the new Global Media Awards program, honoring how the worlds of technology and entertainment have merged to advance both the creativity and science of media worldwide. In prior years, the media like technologies were clearly defined by decades of usage and tradition, as well as culture and country. As the digital age dawned, these distinctions have virtually evaporated as technologists, creators, producers and distributors have dedicated their skills to accomplishments in all forms of media, distributed simultaneously to international audiences.
Categories for the Global Media Awards include short form, advertising, website/Internet, repurposed linear/traditional content, long form, platform and user experience/program guide.
Important dates:
September 12, 2008: Deadline for entries to be postmarked
September/October 2008: Blue Ribbon Panel judging
October 19-22, 2008: Nominations announced in Las Vegas during the CEA Industry Forum
January 8, 2009: Winners announced at an awards banquet ceremony on January 8, 2009 at the
